Wooley Bus Shelter: The Parish Council has been looking for a suitable use for the redundant bus shelter that served Wooley Hospital. One suitable site on the village street was identified by the PC in conjunction with an officer from the County Highways department. However, after representations from neigh- bours and discussions with them at the August meeting, councillors decided that it would be impractical to use this site. Alternative uses for the shelter will be sought- it is owned by the Parish and we should not let it fall into ruin.
Commemoration Hall: Following a presentation on finances from the Treasurer of the Hall Trustees at the July meeting, councillors discussed how best to l support the Hall. We decided to make an immediate grant to help meet the big increase in heating costs over the last two years.
School Playing Field: The PC, Community Trust and School have been dis- cussing the management and regulations for use of the school field with other schools with open playing fields and with the community police. These need to include a community agreement about responsibilities. In the light of recent incidents, it will be important that this involves everyone concerned – users and i their parents as well as the managers of the scheme. We request that all users of the school field respect not only the school property but also the neighbours of the school and their properties. .
Village Planters: The Community Trust has asked the PC to take over responsibility for the planters originally provided by the Trust to enhance the appearance of the Town Head entrance to the village. Before making a decision the PC is consulting on whether a suitable attractive location can be found which will not interfere with maintenance of the grassed areas.
Village Bus: The PC questionnaire about the present bus service – to help make the best case when the County Council reviews its subsidy for the route in September – is available in the Shop in paper format and on-line at www.slaley.org.uk. We hope as many people as possible will give their views and say how they personally have been affected – this may be our last chance to improve the service.
Overhanging Branches: The PC requests that residents check that their shrubs & trees are not causing a problem to footpath users. Please cut back low hanging branches – this should not now be a problem for nesting birds.
