Women’s Institute

Slaley Women’s Institute was established in 1923. Meetings are free, and are held on the second Wednesday of each month (except in August), at 7 pm in the Commemoration Hall. The current subscription is £26 per year, which includes eight issues a year of the WI membership magazine “WI Life”, and over £11 of this subscription stays with our local Slaley WI.

The meetings usually begin with a brief business session, followed by a talk (e.g. “A Year Behind the Veil”) or craft activity (e.g. glass painting) and end with supper. Talks and visits planned for you this year include “Easter Cake Decorations” and a day visit to Killhope Lead Mining Museum. The full 2011 programme is available (as a PDF document, for printing on A4).

For further information please contact the Secretary,  Dorothy Bell (Tel:  01434 676 962) or our President, Moyra Riseborough (Tel:  01434 673 486).

The Women’s Institute is the largest women’s organisation in the UK, with 215,000 members in 7,000 Institutes. We offer women an opportunity to make an impact on their communities, to influence local, national and world issues affecting the social, economic and environmental life of families and communities, and to learn new and traditional skills.

There are also regional meetings and events for those who wish to attend, and various residential courses at the Women’s Institute College near Oxford.
