Situated in the centre of Slaley, the First School serves the areas of Slaley, Blanchland and Minsteracres, taking children from 3 to 9 years. The Headteacher is Mrs Demelza Ross, and the Chair of Governors is Mrs Marge Rastall.
Following its last inspection by Ofsted in December 2009, the report stated that:
” Highly regarded by the local community, Slaley First is a good school. It has several outstanding features, especially the high quality of everyday care from all staff and its delightful atmosphere. It is a happy place .”

The Friends of Slaley School (FOSS) is the name of Slaley First School’s Parent Teacher Association. We have an open membership which means that as a parent/guardian/teacher of a child at the school you automatically become a member of Friends of Slaley School and are welcome to attend meetings.
