Churches
Slaley is a parish church in its own right, although in practice we share a priest with Riding Mill and Healey.
Please see our page on the national church website A Church Near You for more information about our services and many other details. St Mary’s Church is open for anyone who wishes to visit, pray or just enjoy its peace and beauty.
St Mary’s Parish Church
Services are held at St. Mary's every Sunday at 11.15am. Holy Communion is celebrated on the first Sunday of every month and you can always be assured of a warm welcome. More details are posted on the website page here A Church Near You.
St Mary's, the parish church of the village, is also now the home of Slaley Methodist Church and on one Sunday of every month we are delighted to welcome a Methodist Minister or Preacher to lead our worship. As well as usual weekly worship, all the churches of Slaley unite for Messy Church in the Commemoration Hall on Saturday mornings four times each year.
Slaley Methodist Church
Slaley Methodist Church now worships at St Mary's as part of a very happy, united and growing congregation.
St Elizabeth's Church
The parish of St. Elizabeth started in 1765 when the Silvertop family established the ‘Minsteracres Mission’ and a first priest was appointed with responsibility for the pastoral care of the family and the catholics in the surrounding area. Since then it developed to what it is now: a vital and vibrant faith community with active participation in the liturgy and other dimensions of parish life. The parishioners try to be a living sign of the Kingdom of God in this part of the world. There are a variety of groups for justice and peace, music and liturgy, and journey of faith. In 2015, the parishioners celebrated 250 years of faith and mission at St Elizabeth’s.
