Slaley Show

It was a sad task to have to put “Cancelled” notices  on our roadside signs, made even more awful by finding that Highways had taken down our signs. as luck would have it Anne Collier of Collier Framing happened to see our signs in the Highways depot and alerted Stella who was able to retrieve them. Many thanks to Anne. Highways have no obligation to notify us of their actions and our signs would just have been destroyed: a grievous cost to the Show....

Pond Dipping & Wild Flower Walk at Ladycross Nature Reserve

Starts at Ladycross Quarry gates at 1 p.m.  Pond Dipping Children and Water is a great combination for fun.  However, we do need to make sure the younger members of the walk have the necessary nets and trays so an idea of how many are coming is essential.   Wild Flower Walk The circular walk is approximately 1 mile, you will need appropriate footwear and clothing.  At the moment the route is not pushchair or wheelchair friendly – but we are working to address this. £5...

Illegal Killing of Buzzards in our area

There have been two illegal killings of buzzards reported recently in Hexhamshire and Blanchland. We have no idea who killed these birds, though logically it is someone with a licenced shotgun. The killers are breaking the law, tarnishing the reputation of our area and, most importantly, needlessly killing our precious native wildlife. We are appealing for information on these crimes. People can come forward confidentially and use the RSPB’s Raptor Crime Hotline on 0300 999 0101 or contact the...

It will be possible to buy the wines at cellar door prices, plus, of course, tax and duty- and they will be delivered to the North East. Slaley Commemoration Hall Planning Application

An application has been submitted to the planning department to alter the existing Slaley Commemoration Hall and also to construct an extension. The brief for this design was provided by the Trustees of the hall. The Trustees had carried out a survey of villagers and users to determine peoples aspirations for the hall. The survey revealed several issues: The toilets were considered to be in poor condition. This is no surprise to anyone who uses the hall: they fall well short of even the lowest e...

Farewell to Mrs Hay!

Mrs Julie Hay has been teaching at Slaley First School for seventeen years, but is now about to retire after her long service. The Slaley Mums who have kids at the school at the moment are organising a card and donations for her retirement. To speed things up till the card arrives (custom made by someone) we have put a batch of stickers which can be filled in to be stuck in the card, and an envelope for donations in the shop, as there are others in the village who probably want to wish her well....
