Village Hall Fashion Show

On 28th September we hosted a joint fundraising event with Gaby Sutton Charity for the Children’s Liver Disease Foundation and Slaley Commemoration Hall 100 years refurbishment fund. Gaby has raised over £32,000 since she started organising fashion shows and over the years people have donated their special clothes to her cause,  she has all the undergarments, shoes and accessories for the period of each outfit. Slaley Commemoration Hall Planning Application

An application has been submitted to the planning department to alter the existing Slaley Commemoration Hall and also to construct an extension. The brief for this design was provided by the Trustees of the hall. The Trustees had carried out a survey of villagers and users to determine peoples aspirations for the hall. Farewell to Mrs Hay!

Mrs Julie Hay has been teaching at Slaley First School for seventeen years, but is now about to retire after her long service. The Slaley Mums who have kids at the school at the moment are organising a card and donations for her retirement. To speed things up till the card arrives (custom made by someone) we have put a batch of stickers which can be filled in to be stuck in the card, and an envelope for donations in the shop, as there are others in the village who probably want to wish her well....

Barley Hill Fund is open to applicants in 2018!

The Barley Hill Fund at the Community Foundation is open for applications in 2018. The Fund will award grants from £500 to £2,000 to projects which benefit the residents of Healey and Minsteracres Parish where the hall was situated. In 2017 the Fund made two awards totalling £4,832. Local charity Lifespan Complementary, received an award of £3,000 towards its “Mature Movers” fitness class. Slaley Show, 12th August 2017

Slaley Show began in 1845, starting with classes for flowers and horticulture. It has moved to much wider scope and now includes classes and demonstration of sheep, alpacas, chickens, horses, baking, handicrafts and wood turning. There are many different demonstrations and types of entertainment laid on in the main ring. The craft tent and the field are filled with stalls for craft goods and countryside produce. On Sunday April 9th, Margaret and Roy Ward were presented with a garden seat and a plaque, along with a meal out for them both at the Lord Crewe. This has been organised by the Parish Council, on behalf of the parish and all those who have been served long and well by them both. Slaley is going to host a Community Amusement Tournament.
